Hole
in the Head Press was created in 2002 to publish
the second edition of Rings of Supersonic Steel
as well as other books on the Cold War and the Atomic
Age.
I was one of the founding members of the
Fort
MacArthur Museum Association, the publisher of the
first edition of Rings. When the first edition sold out,
the authors granted me the rights to publish the second
edition.
So, why did I name my publishing company,
Hole
in the Head Press?
When I retired from the Los Angeles County
District Attorney's Office Bureau
of Investigation and moved to Bodega
Bay, some sixty miles north of San Francisco, I discovered
there was a large hole in Bodega Head - known locally,
as The
Hole in the Head. The Hole in the Head is one of the
most visible reminders of Pacific Gas & Electric's
ill-advised attempt to build an "Atomic Park""Atomic
Park" nearly on top of the San Andreas earthquake
fault that runs out to sea through Bodega Head.
Thus, I decided to call my publishing company,
Hole in the Head Press.
Things tend to move slowly up here on the
North Coast. I'm retired and am involved with the Coast
Defense Study Group as well as an effort to rehabilitate
an old Nike Ajax launch site on Angel
Island, so watch for new titles to appear periodically
over the next several years.
Sincerely,
Sam Stokes, Publisher
